Some helpful stats…

A friend of mine asked how often the away team wins if they score first? Good question. I’ve just spent the last two hours poring over the numbers on soccerstats.com and come up with some interesting stuff…

(For the purposes of this post the “dog” is the team not expected to win the game, therefore, when the big four play each other there is no “dog” and those games are not included).

Over the last three Premiership seasons, the dog has scored first in 270 of the 1116 games played, they have gone on to win in 127 of those games, 47%. Interestingly, after going a goal down, the dog has only gone on to win 29 games out of 1116, less than ten per season.

If you take the above 270 and add the number of 0-0’s across the last three seasons, which is 99, you have a total of 369. Take that from the overall 1116 and you’re left with 747 games where the favourite scored first, pretty good news for the Draw layers amongst you…

Stay green.
